Why is chicken off the Tayyibat diet?

4 min read

No

Dr. Al-Awadi excluded modern chicken. This is one of his own rulings, not a reading of his rules.

Why he excluded chicken

His objection was not to the bird. It was to how modern chickens are raised.

Today's chicken isn't the bird your grandmother cooked. It reaches full size in a few weeks, indoors, on corn and soy, with routine medicine. And what it eats ends up in you: more of one kind of fat (omega-6) than a bird raised outside.

In the book's own words:

Modern broilers reach slaughter weight in weeks on corn-and-soy feed, raised indoors by the tens of thousands and routinely medicated. The feed changes the food: grain-fed birds carry measurably more omega-6 fat than pasture-raised ones. The book's own words · Food list · Chicken

The same rule covers every animal raised on factory feed. What an animal eats becomes what you eat.

What about other birds?

Farmed poultry is out across the board. Duck, goose and turkey are all excluded, and each one is his own ruling.

Game birds are different. Quail is allowed, and that is his own ruling. Partridge and pheasant are also on the yes list, but only because they follow from his rules. He never ruled on them directly.

What to eat instead

These are all allowed, and all his own rulings:

The system also has a rhythm for meat: a day on, a day off, and one animal protein per plate, never two.

People also ask

Is chicken haram on the Tayyibat diet?

No. Chicken is halal. The Tayyibat diet is a health choice, not a religious ruling, and Dr. Al-Awadi's objection was to how modern chickens are raised, not to the bird. Al-Azhar has noted that the Prophet ate chicken, and nothing on this site says otherwise.

What about free-range or village chicken?

He never ruled on it separately. His ruling was on the chicken people actually buy, and his reason was the factory feed.

Is chicken broth or chicken liver allowed?

No. Chicken liver and giblets are his own ruling, and a no. Bone broth in the system is made from lamb or beef bones and trotters.

Did the doctor say stopping chicken replaces medicine?

He did, in his recordings, about antidepressants and sleeping tablets. This site does not follow him there. Never stop or reduce a prescribed medicine because of a food list.
