How to start the Tayyibat diet: the four-week plan

6 min read

Do not change everything on a Monday. Nobody sustains that. The book's route in is one change a week, in an order that makes each next change easier: flour out, then fresh dairy, then poultry and eggs with a shorter plate, then the fasting rhythm. Four weeks, and you got there without a single day of feeling deprived.

Sliced white bread spilling from its bag: the first thing to go

Week one: take out the flour

Out: white bread, pasta, pastries, biscuits, breakfast cereal, pizza, crackers, cake.

Everything else stays exactly as it is. Do not touch dairy, do not touch chicken, do not count anything. One change.

Instead: white rice, potatoes, real whole-wheat or sourdough bread. The bread swap is the one people fear and it is the easiest.

What happens: days two to five are the worst of the whole four weeks. Headache, irritability, a foul mood in the afternoons. That is withdrawal from fast carbohydrate, and it passes. By day six most people notice the mid-afternoon collapse has gone. This single week does more than the other three combined.

Week two: take out fresh dairy

Out: milk, yoghurt, labneh, ayran, fresh white cheese, cream, ice cream.

In: aged cheese. Roumy, aged akawi, kashkaval, aged cheddar, parmesan. Time has already digested the milk sugar out of these, which is the whole reason they stay.

Instead: tahini where you used yoghurt. Olive oil where you used cream.

What happens: this is the week the bloating usually goes, and it goes fast.

Week three: poultry, eggs, and the short plate

Out: industrial chicken, duck, turkey, eggs, chicken liver.

In: lamb, goat, beef, rabbit, wild fish. And only every other day.

And now the plate rule. Two or three items. One animal protein, once, on a protein day. Lamb, rice, cooked carrot is a complete meal. Lamb, rice, carrot, salad, bread, yoghurt and fruit is a committee.

Week four: add the fasting rhythm

Mondays and Thursdays, dawn to sunset, then a normal evening meal. Add the three white days of the lunar month, the 13th, 14th and 15th, once the rhythm feels settled. Fasting is optional: if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, underweight, elderly, diabetic, or on medicine that must be taken with food, leave it alone. How the fasting works.

The kitchen reset, in one afternoon

Get a box. Walk the kitchen once and put in it: white bread, pasta, biscuits, cereal, crackers; milk, yoghurt, fresh white cheese, cream; margarine, blended frying oil, commercial mayonnaise; cola, packaged juice, energy drinks; crisps, instant noodles, stock cubes, ketchup. Do it in one pass and do not deliberate.

Then never run out of the five: white rice, potatoes, dates, natural butter, sugar. The full shopping list is in the book.

Your first day, written out

When hunger arrives: morning rice with butter and dates. Main: grilled lamb chops with rice. Later, if you want something: grapes and aged cheese. Three meals, none with more than three things on the plate, no breakfast at a fixed hour. All forty recipes.

When you get it wrong

You ate something off the list: nothing happens. Return at the next meal. No penance, no restart. You are bloated again: look at the plate before the list; it is almost always item count. You are hungry all the time: you are under-eating fat. Butter, olive oil, avocado.

People also ask

Is there a weekly meal plan for the Tayyibat diet?

Yes. The book writes out a full first week, meal by meal, with recipe numbers. The recipes page has all forty.

What do I eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

The system has no fixed meals. Eat when truly hungry, two or three items on the plate, one animal protein on protein days. A typical day: rice with butter and dates, then lamb with rice, then grapes and aged cheese.

How long until I feel a difference?

The book says days two to five are the worst, the bloating usually goes within a week, and energy steadies in week two or three. It promises nothing beyond that.

Can I do it in one week instead of four?

You can, but the book advises against it: each week removes the thing driving the craving for the next, and people who take three months end up in the same place.
