Why melon and watermelon sit outside the Tayyibat diet

5 min read

No

Dr. Al-Awadi excluded watermelon and cantaloupe himself, both his own rulings. The reason is water, not sugar: too much of it, too fast, floods the stomach and breaks the gaps between meals the whole system runs on.

The rule: too much water, too fast

The book names this rule plainly: too much water. A food that is almost pure water, eaten on a full stomach, floods the stomach in one go. That flood waters down the juices that digest a meal and can set the bowel moving early. The whole system runs on real gaps between meals, and a flood of water breaks that gap. The same rule takes lettuce and cucumber off the list too.

Watermelon

Dr. Al-Awadi ruled on watermelon himself. It is almost entirely water, and that volume, not its sugar, is the reason it is off the list.

Cantaloupe

He ruled on cantaloupe himself too, for the same reason as watermelon. The book puts it in five words: melons out, grapes in. The water is the problem, not the sweetness.

Every other melon he never named

Honeydew, galia, charentais, casaba and crenshaw melon, winter melon, the horned melon called kiwano, and the santa claus melon are all off the list too. He never named a single one of them himself. They are the same fruit family as watermelon and cantaloupe, mostly water, so they follow from the same rule. That is a reading of his rules, not a ruling he gave.

So why are grapes allowed?

Grapes are allowed, his own ruling. Melon and watermelon are off the list for their water, not their sugar, and grapes never bring that same flood. Same fruit bowl in summer, one rule that reads the two sides of it differently.

What to eat instead in a hot month

White rice and dates in small bowls, both allowed on the Tayyibat diet, a summer swap for melon

Dates are one of the five foods the whole system is built on, his own ruling, on the list every single day. Grapes are on the list too, for something sweet and cold. Rice with butter and dates covers the rest of a hot afternoon: small plates, food cooked rather than raw, and real gaps between meals, the same rule that keeps melon off the plate.

People also ask

Why is watermelon not allowed on the Tayyibat diet?

His own ruling, no. Watermelon is almost entirely water. That volume floods the stomach and can set the bowel moving early, breaking the gaps between meals the whole system depends on.

Is cantaloupe allowed on the Tayyibat diet?

No, his own ruling. The same reason as watermelon: too much water, not the sugar. The book's own line is "melons out, grapes in".

What about honeydew, galia or other melons?

They follow from his rule on watermelon and cantaloupe. He never named them himself, but they are the same fruit family, mostly water, so they are off too.

Why are grapes allowed if melon is not?

Because the rule is about water, not sugar. Grapes are allowed, his own ruling, and they never bring the same flood that melon does.

What can I eat instead of watermelon in summer?

Dates and grapes, both on the yes list. Dates are one of the five foods the whole system is built on, his own ruling.
